What is your method of tolerance for those who choose to ridicule your beliefs?

I consider myself to be scientific, and I am able to tolerate others' opinions as long as they don't interfere with my life. But if a religious person votes for a politician who is trying to reduce the scientific mentality in school and society in general, it might not look like a direct attack on me, but I would have to try to convince this religious person that their doings are not right.
